AUAU was established by architect, Akitoshi Ukai in 2000. Based in the city of Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture, AUAU’s work encompasses family homes, apartments, offices, shops, clinics, holiday homes, and tourist facilities. The designs of AUAU are characteristically contemporary but comfortable: simple and functional in content, yet dynamic in form. Previous works have been featured on digital magazines Designboom, Dezeen and ArchDaily.

Akitoshi Ukai’s designs are a photographer’s dream. Staircases curl around corners, or diagonally break space between beams. Floors are made of wood, their planks running in tandem the length of a room. Squared shelving mimics picture frames, a metaphor I suppose as the books and objects they contain are a reflection of the owner.Read More
